We Serve Our Neighbor

We Don’t Simply Serve Food. We Serve Our Neighbor.

Open Arms Mission is one of the few Lake County weekly food pantries.  Our goal is to  ensure our neighbors receive 2 days of meals (based on the size of household) plus frozen meat, fresh gallon of milk and when available personal hygiene products.

Is your perception of an “individual in need” a homeless person or maybe someone struggling with addictions? While this might be the case for a few, 236 families request assistance from OAM each week and there are 236 different reasons why.  Current statistics say 1 in 10 residents of Illinois are food insecure. People who turn to Open Arms might be your neighbor, a coworker, a friend or maybe even family. Some are two-income families suddenly reduced to one income, no income due to unemployment or possibly no income due to illness/accident. Some are single parents receiving little or no child support. Just over 30% are Senior Ctizens forced to choose between buying medication, paying utility bills or purchasing food. Open Arms Mission is the safety net that people from all walks of life rely on for assistance.

Open Arms Mission is your local non-profit organization that relies on donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations, corporate partners, grants, individual giving, matching funds and schools.  Open Arms Mission meets the needs of many because of several caring and giving “neighbors” who see a need and want to make a difference by offering their time and talents! Please join us in our efforts of “neighbor helping neighbor.”
