HOW

YOU

CAN

HELP

Welcome!

Our mission as a holistic community organization is to provide daily living necessities while encouraging self sufficiency for individuals and families in need. At Open Arms Mission, we don't simply serve food ... we serve people. Our commitment is to build a healthy community, one neighbor at a time.

You can make a difference for a neighbor through our

Holiday Giving Programs

Open Arms Mission provides help in a multitude of ways to meet the needs of our neighbors who come to us. As a weekly Food Pantry our volunteers provide a caring, personal touch to all who come through our door. Due to the increasing impact of economic hardships, the numbers of neighbors in need continues to increase on a weekly basis. The holidays though have always been a time when people are most in need. The following programs have been developed to provide for those who might otherwise have to go without:

Community Thanksgiving Dinner – Community volunteers gather to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner for those who might be alone or do not have the means for a hot meal. This year we provided about 150 fresh cooked traditional meals for Seniors in Antioch and Lake Villa.

Holiday Meal Boxes – A special food box is distributed before Thanksgiving and Christmas that includes the makings of a traditional holiday meal – turkey, stuffing, potatoes, yams, 2 vegetables, jello, bread, butter, oranges desert, coffee, hot chocolate, pancake mix, syrup and a little more! In 2009 we are planning for distribution of 800 Holiday Meal Boxes. You can help by donating $25.00 to cover the cost for a family!

Adopt-A-Family – This program is a means of providing less fortunate families with a holiday filled with the same joys and happiness others are able to experience. We meet with each and every family and help assess their greatest needs for their children 17 and under to develop a "needs wish list" which may include such necessities as winter coats and gloves, shoes and boots, pajamas and other clothing items, along with a fun toy or educational gift.  Individuals, families and organizations "adopt" a family size of their choosing, doing the shopping and provide gift wrap and tape for the parents to wrap the gifts. In 2008 we distributed holiday gifts to 250+ families who might not otherwise be able to afford practical items needed by their children. Through this program we are providing the greatest gift of the holiday season, letting others know you are there for them. You can help by adopting a family!.

Thank you, your continued support is the success of our programs,
